3 Reasons To Ditch that Disk for Amazing Art Work

In the digital age, we keep everything on our electronic devices. Heck, these days, we keep it all in the magical “cloud.” I admit, I like technology as much as the next person (I think I’m up to my 4th Apple device). But when it comes to photographs and memories of our lives, are we missing out on really cherishing these fleeting moments? I think we are.

Too often, I hear stories of people who hire a photographer and receive only a disk of images from their session. Guess what happens to that disk? It gets filed away in a drawer, or a safe, or under a stack of mail. And those precious family memories never get enjoyed.

As a family photographer, I think it’s SO much more important to bring your photographs to life in your home. I’m passionate about helping families tell their story, and keeping it at the forefront of their daily lives.

With that in mind, here are three reasons why you should ditch that disk, and start asking for art work in your home:

1. Immediate Enjoyment – when the end result of your photo session is a stunning wall art collection, or a beautiful, hand-crafted photo album, you get immediate enjoyment from your photos! You don’t have to jump through any hoops or make any more decisions. You just get to wake up every day and smile when you see your art work.

On the flip side, what if the end result of your photo session is a disk of images? You’ve really only created more work for yourself. Now it’s your responsibility to decide which images you like, where you want to get them printed, how you should crop them, how you should arrange them, and the list goes on. If you ever do get through all of that, you’ll end up with a few 5×7’s and maybe an 8×10. Now you have to go frame shopping. Ugh.

2. Meaningful Home Decoration – yes, there’s a place for that abstract painting you found at the estate sale, or the rustic “live, love, laugh” sign on sale at Target. But what if you could fill the spaces in your home with something way more meaningful? When you create art work from your images, you’re decorating your home with YOU, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR PERSONALITIES, YOUR MEMORIES. Quite frankly, you can’t put a price tag on that. I don’t think there’s anything more valuable for your wall space than your photographs.

3. Lasting Memories – life moves at a fast pace for all of us. Kids grow up and eventually move out. The moments you have as a family are extremely valuable. Aren’t they worth preserving for a lifetime? When you purchase heirloom-quality art work, you’re making an investment that will last. Rather than digging through a folder to find an outdated DVD or USB drive, you’ll have tangible, physical memories where you can always enjoy them.

These are just a few of the reasons why I believe art work is superior to digital files. It’s sad to me that the most photographed generation may be the one with the fewest photographs to show for it. I’m committed to making sure my clients get the most from their memories!

I’d love to hear your input on this topic. Have you ever ordered art work of your family for your home? If not, what has kept you from it in the past? Do you see the value in bringing your images to life, rather than just having a disk?
